Anonymous 4
I'll start by telling you about my amazing night! All week I had been thinking about what I wanted to do this weekend, because last weekend I stayed home both Friday and Saturday, and I was very ready to not do that again. As if knowing this, my friend Anna-Katharine from Geneva posted on my Facebook yesterday that Anonymous 4 was going to be performing in Durham tonight. Given that I read this post right before choir yesterday, I asked my wonderful new friend Anne if she wanted to go with me. So tonight we went to the concert, and it was incredible. Anonymous 4 is an a cappella group of 4 women who have beautiful voices. They have been a group for 25 years, and it shows. They sang a new piece by an award-winning composer called "Love Fail" and it was a retelling of the Tristan and Isolde story. It was very well done. From the first song I was completely engrossed. The whole event reminded me a lot of the Geneva Concert Series because it was co-sponsored by Duke, and because there were mostly older people there with a smattering of students. hehe. It was exciting to go out and participate in something in the greater Durham community. Before the show Anne and I went out to a restaurant I've been meaning to try- Bull City Burger & Brewery. It was SO good. All of the meat is North Carolina sourced and pasture raised, and I must say that it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. mmm. It was also a pretty hippie-dippie place (yes, I made up that term). We drank our iced tea from mason jars. First time for everything. ha.

Knitting
In between homework and stressing about mid-terms, this week I taught Kat and T.J. how to knit! I also started a couple of new projects, which as most of you know helps me keep my sanity. Kat seems to really like knitting so far- she's well on her way to finishing her first dish cloth.| First night learning to knit |

T.J. also seems to like knitting, although he doesn't like to work on it as much (apparently he's afraid that if he works on it when I'm not here he may mess up and I won't be able to fix it). :-P Here is his progress so far

Giddy with Excitement!
I am currently giddy with excitement because I get to see my amazing family in less than 12 hours! I'm really looking forward to spending the weekend with them- we are going to go to the Duke football game tomorrow, and I'm going to drag them around to church-y events on Sunday. Then on Monday we're going to dine in the Refectory for lunch (note, any Div School friends who are reading this, please stop by and say hi! We should be there around noon!), and Jenna is going to come to Hebrew class with me on Monday! Should be great!I'm also super excited that I will be in Geneva SO SOON! I can't wait to have a mini-retreat and see all the wonderful people from HWS and St. Peter's who I have been missing so so much.
Randomness
I baked pumpkin chocolate chip muffins this weekend that T.J. and Kat took to their Christian Education class. The ones we saved for The 504 were quite yummy. I even made ones without chocolate chips for T.J. (Kat doesn't eat eggs or cheese, T.J. doesn't eat chocolate or peanut butter... I aim to please but sometimes it's difficult with these picky eaters!! haha)| More yummyness. |
Other random thing from my week- I had a wonderful conversation with the priest who is one of the interim directors of the Anglican/Episcopal House. She is amazing, and it was great to sit and chat with her and tell her about myself. We're encouraged to get spiritual directors, so I'm going to start contacting some people next week.
One week left until fall break! I won't burden you with my stress about midterms and such coming up. But I'm doing a good job of balancing work and non-work (I think!). It will be hard to have a weekend where I can't do a lot of work... but it will all be ok!
Happy weekend!
Peace, Love, and Smiles y'allChrista
