Biscuits, Broadway, & a Bachelorette

It has been far too long since I've updated my blog, and for that I'm very sorry. Let me tell you in a nutshell how school has been: horrible. Well, not completely horrible, but classes have been very stressful and a ton of work. Hence why this weekend (and many weekends this semester) by outlook has been "weekdays suck, and are crammed with so much work there is no time to relax, thus the weekend should be a time of relaxing." Let me tell you about my wonderful weekends I have had in the past month :-)

Holy, Holy, Holy Week

Holy Week is my favorite week of the year, and this year was no exception. I was incredibly homesick for my Geneva church family, but the services at St. Luke's were beautiful. I sang SO much with the choir, and it was great. I'm realizing how much I am going to miss singing with choirs... sigh. My favorite service, the Easter Vigil, was really cool! I was skeptical because it was different from how we did it at HWS, and in Framingham, but of course once I just kept an open mind it was a lovely service. Lauren Winner preached, I sang a solo, and we had lots and lots of baptisms (and very soulful music!).

Easter day was also wonderful! The church was filled, the music was spectacular, and Anne preached a wonderful sermon. In the afternoon, Clara and Shane invited all of the "orphans" out to their house in Oxford, and it was such a fun dinner! Aside from the fact that Duke lost, everything else was great! Me and my new friend Samantha were beasts at Corn Hole (a southern version of a bean bag toss, that's wayyyy more intense), and we had an Easter egg hunt! It was so nice to spend the afternoon with great friends. :-) And we found out that Clara is having a baby! Lil Biscuit! I already ordered the yarn for the baby blanket I'm going to knit. he he he.

Corn Hole. ha.

Broadway Revue

I think the most fun I've had at Divinity School was being a part of Broadway Revue. As frustrating as it was at times, as much as I complained, and as exhausted as I was- it was TOTALLY worth it. The performances were so much fun! I met so many wonderful people, and we raised over $3100 for ZOE Ministry (click this link to learn more about our group- ZOE Ministry ). I had so much fun being on stage again; I haven't performed in SOO long (unless you count Vagina Monologues... hehe). I was in eight pieces: Oklahoma!, Dancing Queen, Run Freedom Run, Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat, and Can't Help Falling in Love with You were the all-cast numbers, and my small ensembles were I Just Can't Wait to be King (so much fun! We made awesome masks), When You're An Addams (I played an ancestor zombie. amazing), and Piccalittle Talk A Little from The Music Man. Love love loved all the the pieces. I can't wait for next year! :-)

And my mommy came to visit, so it was great to have her here for the weekend!

Here are some pictures

Amazing picture. All ready for the opening- Oklahoma!!

Bachelorette Party!

I have now officially planned and executed my first bachelorette party for a friend :-) woot woot. It was simple, and just the right combination of classy and super fun! A group of 11 of us went out to dinner at a nice Italian restaurant, where we proceeded to embarrass our bachelorette Rachel by adorning her with a bright pink sash, presenting her with her gift (wink wink) and doing bachelorette mad-libs. Then, we all went out to a fabulously sketchy towny bar and sang karaoke all night! The DJ loved that we were there for a bachelorette party, haha. We had a great time! Hopefully I'll be able to make it out to Kentucky for her wedding in August :-)

AEHS Fun Times

I'm still having a great time being involved in AEHS. I've quickly gotten used to how to set up for a Eucharist, given that we have them weekly now at Morning Prayer. I was thrown into a sub-deaconing situation this past week that went well, all things considering. I also can finally talk about the new job I have with AEHS! Yay! I'm going to be the student intern next year, working with my friend William and the director David to plan events, brown-bags, and AEHS services. I'm super excited for the opportunity, and I have lots and lots of ideas brewing in my head :-) hehe

Odds & Ends

Spending Sunday baking, singing, and knitting is the way to go. Currently the roommates are bantering in the kitchen while they bake, and I'll move in there soon to bake some breakfast muffins for the week. I'm going to try and remain relaxed as I head into this last week of classes.

Friday I ship off to Rochester/Geneva for the weekend. Prayers much appreciated on Saturday morning when I meet with my Commission on Ministry! Can't wait to then head to Geneva and worship with the St. Peter's crew on Sunday morning. I hope this week goes by nice and fast :-)

Jukeboxing

If you know this song, it will get stuck in your head for a very long time. My ensemble group basically did this exact number for Broadway Revue (except we also added the scene before this one)- it was definitely one of my favorites.

Professor, her kind of woman doesn't belong on any committee. Of course, I shouldn't tell you this, but she advocates DIRTY BOOKS! hehe.

Lastly, get ready for the next 504 liturgical piece. We'll be working on it this afternoon :-)

Happy Easter!
Peace, Love, & Smiles,
Christa
